It’s 91 degrees in Cleveland on October 8th. So, its hard to believe that winter is coming. But it is! The thought that Northeast Ohio winter is on its way makes me cringe. I love the look of the newfallen snow. On Christmas. Okay, on Christmas Eve as well. After that, ick! I despise the cold weather. We’ve never been into skiing, although I wouldn’t mind trying. I had an unfortunate accident involving a bunny hill and a snowboard which left my tailbone cracked. So I tend to stick to the indoor activities or something that requires a little less coordination like toboganning. Sometimes, though, the bitter cold subzero temps are is just too much and we need some indoor activities to break up the monotony. These are some of the favorite activities in our household. If you are on the Westside of Cleveland I’ve included links to a few of our favorite locations so you can check out the schedules.
1. Roller Skating. Yes, my kids took up this fun pastime last winter and we had a blast exploring different roller rinks around the area! For me it was a blast from the past. I used to spend many weekends and birthday parties at USA skates, and I believe there was a skating dinosaur involved. Think Barney, but green, on roller skates. That’s what I recall. Truthfully, the roller rinks don’t look much different than what I remember. However, its tons of fun and good exercise too! Here are a few lanes on the Westside of Cleveland that you may want to check out:
- Country Skateland in Oberlin
- Our go to is Roll Arena in Elyria. It’s nearby and they have dedicated time for kids and families.
- Lorain Skate World
2. Bowling is another great family activity. Here are a few local bowling alley’s that you may want to try:
- Spevock’s Nautical Lanes in Avon Lake
- Bay Lane’s Bowl in Bay Village
- Brunswick Lanes in North Ridgeville
- Main Event also has some lanes, in addition to many other activities… more on this location below.
3. My kids love to get some energy out tumbling, twirling on the bars, etc. A really inexpensive way to get an hour or two of energy out is at Olmsted Performing Arts open gym. At just $5, it is a cost effective way to get the kids moving!
4. Main Event is the new favorite of my kids. It’s a little too costly to make it a weekly occurrence, but it’s a good treat with lots of activities. Have lunch, play some games, do some bowling, even climb the overhead ropes course or play some laser tag!
5. My kids will ALWAYS be happy if we tell them we are going to Skyzone. Another great place to burn off some of that energy and run free!
I would love to hear from you! What are your favorite indoor outings in Northeast Ohio? I would love to hear some new ideas!
